F1 decides it's the winning that counts

Formula One bosses have voted for a major rule change that will see this year's championship awarded to the driver who gets the most wins instead of the most points.

If the rule had been applied last season, Brazil's Felipe Massa would've won the title instead of Britain's Lewis Hamilton.

Massa totalled six wins compared to Hamilton's five.

The sport's governing body, the FIA, hopes the change will encourage more overtaking during races.

They also agreed to give teams the option of working within a reduced budget of 30 million pounds from 2010.

Teams choosing to do this would be allowed more technical freedom, such as developing a more aerodynamic car.
