Protest for higher pay outside McDonald's HQ

Around 60 police officers on bicycles are escorting McDonald’s employees as they march on company headquarters to demonstrate for better wages, according to attendees at Thursday’s event. At a similar protest last year, more than 100 individuals were taken into custody.

Attendees at the protest say the 10 McDonald’s employees who delivered a petition to corporate representatives returned from inside headquarters.

At around 9:30 local time, the “Fight for 15” Twitter account announced that the 10 employees who had been let into McDonald’s headquarters had been speaking with representatives from the company for around 20 minutes.

Ten protesters from a group of roughly 1,000 were allowed inside the McDonald’s campus to deliver a petition containing the signatures of around 1.4 million people who want the chain to bump employee wages up to $15 an hour.

The annual shareholders meeting among McDonald’s investors began at 9 a.m. CT on Thursday morning, and hundreds of employees had already gathered outside of the company’s Oak Brook, Illinois headquarters by then.
