Traditional Hajj pilgrimage begins in Saudi Arabia

Traditional Hajj pilgrimage begins in Saudi Arabia

Many Muslims worldwide, including Russia, have been undertaking the traditional Hajj pilgrimage to the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities say they expect more than 1.6 MLN of pilgrims to visit the holy shrines and perform rituals.

The event draws millions of believers and traditionally culminates in the celebration of the Muslim festival of Eid.

In Saudi Arabia, thousands of tents have been put up to accommodate the pilgrims.

Saudi authorities say they expect more than 1.6 MLN of them to visit the holy shrines and perform rituals.

About 18,000 Muslims from Russia are expected to attend this year's pilgrimage.

The Hajj is a duty, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, for all able-bodied Muslims who can afford it.
