Son of Chechen militant faces deportation

Egyptian authorities are planning to deport to Russia the 22-year-old son of a wanted Chechen militant.

Maskhud Abdullaev is one of 37 Russian students arrested in Egypt in late May for allegedly breaking visa regulations.

Abdullaev's father is thought to be the leader of an armed Chechen group and a close ally of Doku Umarov.

Umarov is wanted in Russia on numerous charges of murder, kidnapping and involvement in terror attacks.

He is also believed to be one the organisers of the Beslan school siege in 2004 which took the lives of more than 300 people, mainly children.
