“The Russian car industry is dead”

Nargiz Asadova from Kommersant Newspaper and Andrey Komarov from management consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers discuss the Russian car production slump and government activity attempting to prop up the ailing industry.

Instead of propping up existing car makers, Russia should instead be attracting foreign car manufacturers to the country to make the industry more competitive, Nargiz Asadova thinks.

Andrey Komarov, however, disagrees:

“Of course foreign brands are successful on the market, but we have very strong automotive production in Russia,” he said. “It is not really a solution to just close off this branch.”
