Chinese president visits Sudan

Chinese president visits Sudan

In his first-ever visit to Sudan, Chinese President Hu Jintao discussed the Darfur conflict with his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir. Hu Jintao urged Mr al-Bashir to work harder to force more rebels to take part in the peace process.

The agreement signed by the government and rebels failed to end fighting that's killed more than 200,000 people and forced 2,000,000 to leave their homes.

Hu Jintao's visit comes amid high expectations that China would push its ally to co-operate with the UN in solving the crisis.

Top officials said Sudan and China were “in complete agreement” following talks.
