Enisey grab Russian rugby crown

Enisey grab Russian rugby crown

Enisey-STM Krasnoyarsk won the Russian rugby championship after beating city rivals Krasny Yar in the finals.

The deciding series consisted of two games, with Enisey taking the upper hand in both, 21-15 and 19-15. "It was a very good season, starting with selection and the training camp,” said Enisey-STM coach Aleksey Pervukhin."We fully deserved it. The team has great potential, which I think I haven’t yet fully realized as coach."The victory brought Enisey their third domestic title, with their last championship coming in 2005.     Meanwhile, defending champs VVA Moscow Region, who dominated Russian rugby for the last five seasons, settled for bronze this year, thrashing Novokuznetsk in the third place match-up (50-25 and 52-8). This year’s national rugby championships were Russia’s 10th, and the sport has seen a surge in popularity after the country’s national team made its debut in the recent World Cup.
