Moscow youths plan rally against Estoninan monuments law

Thousands of youth activists are planning to gather in central Moscow to denounce the law passed by the Estonian parliament to remove monuments to Soviet soldiers from city centres and to re-bury their remains.

This includes the famous Bronze Soldier statue in the Estonian capital Tallinn.

The move was highly criticised in the  Russian State Duma where the deputies passed a resolution outlining sanctions against Estonia if the law is enacted.

On Wednesday, January 24, the Federation Council, Russia's Upper House of Parliament, is also expected to debate the issue.

Meanwhile, Estonia's Parliament is to vote on another law “on demolishing forbidden constructions” which also provides a legal basis for getting rid of the Soviet World War Two legacy.
