Busted! Aussie Google Street View flasher charged by police

An Australian housewife who rose to internet fame after being immortalized exposing her breasts to a Google Street View car, has been interrogated by the police, and now faces a court hearing.

“The woman’s actions were the same as someone flashing their genitals and the public expectation is that we take action,” Superintendent Scott Denny of the South Australia state police said in statement.

“Recently in Port Pirie we arrested a man for exposing himself in public — this incident is no different. It is not appropriate for anyone to expose themselves in public places ... our community should be able to expect a bit of decency.”

38-year-old Karen Davis, who is resident in the small coastal town of Port Pirie, said she was “extremely bemused” when the police questioned her, and took a DNA sample, after she completed her “bucket list wish” to make it into Google’s photo navigation service.

“There was no child harmed in the making, my children don’t have to go to therapy because of it, I didn’t give any old man a heart attack — that I’m aware of. I spoke to my 19-year old son before and he thinks it’s funny as, my children don’t have a problem with it at all,” Davis told the Adelaide Advertiser.

“I’m going to try and go to court with a straight face and try not to laugh - I think it is a bit hilarious because it is so low scale in the criminal world.”

“I look at Google Maps a lot and I wanted to be on there and I thought this is the way to do it,” Davis, who said she chased the car with the mounted camera through the streets of her neighborhood, to make sure she got into the shot.

After the photos of Davis’ sizeable breasts, taken back in January 2015, were posted by the service – accidentally uncensored – several weeks ago, they immediately became a viral hit in her hometown, and as the media picked up the story, further and further afield.

In recent days, Davis’ Facebook page has been flooded with friend requests – and negative comments. But the Australian, who admits she “used to be ashamed of her bust size,” has been defiant on Facebook.

“I’m getting ‘bad mum’, ‘feral’, ‘disgusting filth’ — I thought that was quite funny,” she told the Advertiser. “All the flat-tittie chicks think I am disgusting. Big-boob envy has hit Port Pirie.”

Although the automatic censors – which blur out faces and car number plates in their images – made a glaring omission, the outbreak of publicity has incited Google to manually blur out not just Davis’ offending body parts, but her entire figure, presumably to discourage imitators.

Since the service began in 2007, Google’s cars have covered millions of miles of roads, producing an accurate photographic representation of streets in most major settlements in the world. In previous controversial shots, they have accidentally pictured private sexual and criminal scenes, as well as staged pranks, designed to attract attention.

Davis now says she plans to skydive topless for her 40th birthday next year.
