Olympic fan arrested for throwing bottle at Bolt

Olympic fan arrested for throwing bottle at Bolt

Police in London have detained a man who threw a plastic bottle at Usain Bolt and his competitors before the start of the Olympic 100m final on Sunday.

According to a police spokesman, the incident happened several seconds before the sprint began, right after the official told the runners to get set. One of the fans began shouting abuses at race favorite Bolt and then threw a bottle, which landed behind the sprinters. The perpetrator was detained by the true Olympic fans, who were around him in the stands, and handed to the police. Meanwhile, Bolt left all his opponents behind defending his 100m title from Beijing 2008. The Jamaican clocked an Olympic record time of 9.63 seconds, confessed that he didn’t see any bottle flying. "I just heard about it, I didn't actually see it," Bolt told Reuters. "I don't promote violence so I'm sorry to hear that."  But bronze medallist Justin Gatlin says he was distracted by the incident as the sound of the falling bottle was heard in the Olympic stadium.
