Olympic bosses happy with Sochi progress

Olympic chiefs say they are very satisfied with Russia's preparations to host the next Winter Games in 2014.

International Olympic officials have been touring the Black Sea resort of Sochi and the surrounding mountains which will stage the Games in four years’ time.

All facilities there are being built from scratch, but Jean-Claude Killy, the chairman of an IOC commission monitoring the preparations, has said that “the progress is very significant.”

Vladimir Putin stressed that everything is on schedule and underlined a commitment to preserving the natural habitat.

“In general, the work is proceeding on schedule. We have allocated the financial resources in full, according to plans,” the Prime Minister assured.

According to the head of the government, construction has now begun at 43 Olympic venues and planning is in full swing for another 153 sites.
