German 'Romeo' drugs girlfriend to keep playing video games for hours on end

German 'Romeo' drugs girlfriend to keep playing video games for hours on end

A German court has fined a 23-year-old man €500 for giving his girlfriend sleeping pills so that he could keep playing video games with a friend for as long as they wanted.

“I only put four or five drops into her tea,” the man told the court in Castrop-Rauxel, a former mining city in the eastern part of the Ruhr area in Germany, as he admitted to the crime, the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung daily reported.

In August 2014, the man was enjoying playing on his games console with a pal when his then girlfriend came back home at around 10pm after a busy day at work.

All she wanted was peace and quiet, not the cacophony of machine-gun fire coming from a buzzing video game. In fact, she finally got what she wanted.

The woman recalled she had slept until noon the following day after drinking the drugged tea.

“I drove to work although I was nodding off nonstop,” the 24-year-old told the judge, adding that at the time her ex had been on drugs too, which led to their breakup shortly afterwards.

An analysis of the woman's hair reportedly confirmed that she had been under the influence of those drugs just once, when her ex-boyfriend slipped them into her tea last year.

“Your girlfriend had indeed slept long and deeply, which didn't harm her, but this is certainly a premeditated assault,” the judge stated.

“That was stupid of me, but now I'm on the right path,” the man replied, adding that he had been clean for 10 months and would soon start an apprenticeship.
