Girl confesses to planning terror attack in Chechnya

A 21-year-old Lithuanian, who is suspected of planning a suicide bombing in Russia, has confessed that the allegations are true.

“The suspect confirmed that her goal was to enter Russia and go to Chechnya, where she would detonate a bomb that she would carry into a public place,” Lithuanian prosecutor Algimantas Klyunki said, as cited by Itar-Tass news agency.

Egle Kusaite was detained in Lithuania in October 24 by security service officers. The girl had been under surveillance for several months due to extremist anti-Russian posts on the Internet and repeated applications for a Russian visa.

According to investigators, Kusaite had contacts among Islamic radicals in Russia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Great Britain. Her contact in the Chechen Republic, who has been identified and detained by Russian police, was to take her to a training camp where she would undergo conditioning to become a suicide bomber. She also received training in handling explosives.

Kusaite was taken into custody shortly before the double bomb attack in Moscow Metro, and she was initially suspected of being involved in that attack. Later, however, this version was disproved.
