Russia is moving towards the values of Europe - PACE President

PACE President Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe may soon stop its monitoring of Russia. Çavuşoğlu delivered the message during his official visit to the country.

According to the PACE chairman, monitoring can be stopped if the country has proved its willingness to fulfill its commitments to the Council of Europe. In this respect, Mevlüt ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu gave a positive assessment of the trends observed in Russia and of the co-operation between Russia and the Council of Europe.

Thus, he said that Russian-European constructive work on the North Caucasus human rights report is a good example of co-operation.

“The resolution of the report that was adopted unanimously clearly condemned terrorism and terrorist activities in the region and it welcomed reconstruction of the region, particularly Chechnya,” Mevlüt ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu told RT. “On the other hand resolution called on Russia to put an end to climate of impunity and negative atmosphere over there. It also called on the Russian Federation to fight terrorism within the line of human rights and the Council of Europe values that Russia shares.”
