US policies are outdated – Talib Kweli

When we listen to music we don’t expect to be thinking about politics. But artists rap about what they feel passionate about and, for American rapper Talib Kweli, that is burning political issues. RT spoke to the artist.

“People like John McCain and Jan Brewer, these people have been in politics for a long time and they – for lack of a better word and with all the respect – have to die off for change. Their time is up and they are just grasping at whatever they can grasp, with ethnic studies and SB 1070 [Arizona’s immigration law]. These things that make no sense but they make perfect sense for that mentality and that mentality is on its way out,” the rapper said.
