Mongolia’s president dives to Baikal’s bed
Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj is going diving in Lake Baikal, using the Mir-1 submersible.
He is to descend 400 meters. The presidential dive is the 16th in this year’s Mir research program.
The Russian-owned vessels, Mir-1 and Mir-2, were used during the filming of the blockbuster Titanic. They were also the first submersibles to perform a manned descent to the seabed of the North Pole.
The president's dive is part of the Fourth General Session of Mongolians and his fellow countrymen are among those working on research projects at the lake.
