Russia to construct new atomic submarines

Russia's Defence Minister, Sergey Ivanov, says Russia is about to complete the construction of one of its most advanced vessels. The 4th generation atomic submarine, named “Yury Dolgoruky”, is due to be launched this year.

It will be armed with 12 intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Russia is also working on the “Aleksandr Nevsky” and the “Vladimir Monomah” submarines. Both will be larger than the “Dolgoruky” and each will carry 16 “bulava” missiles.
