Amkar wins battle of outsiders

Amkar wins battle of outsiders

The new Russian Premier League matchday kicked off in Perm on Saturday with a battle between Amkar and Krylya Sovetov. The hosts took a crucial three points as the two teams struggle against relegation.

Amkar 2-1 Krylya Sovetov

While Sibir’s days in the Russian top flight seem to be numbered, Amkar, Krylya Sovetov and Alania are struggling to stay in the elite division next year. Following Saturday’s game, Amkar’s chances became more preferable.

In a very tense match, where the two sides were thinking first about defense, hosts Amkar were luckier in attack. They opened the score early in the first half courtesy of their forward Stanica Ristic, but Evgeny Savin’s shot leveled matters right before the halftime whistle.

Yet just three minutes into the second half, Savin helped Amkar score again as a long distance shot by Andrey Topchu deflected into the net right from Savin’s leg.

Amkar then locked their net, not giving Krylya any opportunity to score further, and 2-1 was how it ended in Perm.

Alania 0-0 Rostov

Another club struggling for survival, Alania, drew with Rostov, 0-0.
