Prosecutors do not want Khodorkovsky in Moscow

Prosecutors do not want Khodorkovsky in Moscow

Russia's Prosecutor General’s Office has appealed against a Moscow City Court ruling that would bring Mikhail Khodorskovsky to Moscow as part of an investigation.

He is currently serving his sentence in the Siberian Chita Region, where a new case against him has been opened.

Prosecutors have charged the former head of the Yukos oil comapny and his partner Platon Lebedev with laundering $US 7.5 BLN between 1998 and 2004.

Both of them are pleading not guilty to the charges.

Following a complaint from their lawyers, the Moscow City Court ruled that Mr Khodorkovsky should be transferred to Moscow where the investigation should be carried out.

In 2005, Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev were each sentenced to eight years in prison for fraud and tax evasion.
