U.S.-Iran talks end positively
The first official bilateral talks between Iran and the United States in nearly three decades have ended positively, according to the U.S. Ambassador. The meeting focused solely on dealing with the ongoing conflict in Iraq.
The two countries concluded four hours of talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki with both sides agreeing on a broad policy toward Iraq.Nouri al-Maliki told the U.S. Ambassador, Ryan Crocker, and Iranian Ambassador, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, that his country wanted a stable nation free of foreign forces and regional interference.Washington claims Iran arms, trains and finances militants in Iraq, while Tehran is not happy with the U.S. military presence in the region.
