Russian hostages in Nigeria reportedly alive

According to Russian officials, the six Russian citizens who were taken hostage in Nigeria on Sunday are alive and well. Earlier the Russian Embassy in Nigeria said it was in contact with the kidnappers.

The six men work for the Russian aluminum company RUSAL.

They were abducted at gunpoint from a plant in Nigeria's south-east after the door to their apartment was dynamited. Their Nigerian driver was killed during the attack.

Reportedly, so far no one has claimed responsibility for the incident or demanded a ransom.

The Russian side has stressed that all efforts are being taken to release the hostages.

The Nigerian President is said to be personally supervising the search.
