Russia not to withdraw from CFE

Russia is not planning to withdraw from the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the issue is not expected to be raised at the conference of treaty members to be held in Vienna next week.

Russia is concerned over Europe's refusal to approve a new draft of the arms control agreement and called for the emergency meeting of treaty signatories. Russian officials accuse western partners of neglecting their treaty obligations.

Sergey Lavrov was quoted as saying that “the conference had been called to spell out Russia's concerns”.

The document, signed by NATO and Warsaw Pact countries, proposes limits on the deployment of military equipment.
