Ministerial forum in Jordan looks at new opportunities for Middle East peace process

Russia co-chaired the “Forum for the Future” meeting in Jordan, which has brought together many officials including foreign ministers from countries concerned as well as representatives of over 50 civil society groups.

Vital issues discussed at the forum ranged from good governance and corruption to political pluralism and media freedom, but the focus was mainly on regional security and the peace process.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during the opening session that any kind of innovative ideas will be useless, unless security within the region is guaranteed. It was a specific reference to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, which he sees as the core of all conflicts that can be currently seen in the Middle East.

On the other hand, world leaders have to be sensitive when applying democracy to local traditions.
