Georgia to continue importing Russian gas

Despite a substantial price increase, Georgia has confirmed it will buy Russian gas. The statement was made by the Georgian Foreign Minister, Gela Bezhuashvili.

He said his country cannot afford to refuse gas from Russia and added that Georgia is ready to pay for its independence.

Bezhuashvili stated that the Georgian government was working on a new energy strategy and it looked forward to finding new ways of transporting gas from Central Asia to Georgia.
