Deal with Iran: New opportunities for region
The successful talks on the Iranian nuclear program (INP) in Geneva have brought us closer to a solution to one of the most complex international problems.
Persistent diplomacy, efforts of the ‘E3+3’ and Tehran resulted in adopting a framework agreement that addresses the serious concerns of the international community on the INP.
The Geneva Accord is a genuine breakthrough and opens up opportunities to continue the work on a comprehensive and final agreement with Iran. That would no doubt have a positive impact on the regional situation and international affairs in general.
The Geneva Accord is based on a concept set out by Russian President Vladimir Putin. It implies the recognition of the Iran's inalienable right to develop peaceful nuclear energy, including the right to uranium enrichment, given it is put under strict international control with all the sanctions, including unilateral, to be lifted.
The deal reflects the principle of step-by-step advance and reciprocity, put forward by Russia earlier. The outcome of the talks shows that only collective efforts and diplomatic solution can help find answers to the complex international problems and conflicts.
We believe that the agreement will have a positive impact on the developments in the Middle East, presenting an alternative to any militarized approaches to the regional problems. It will unquestionably be helpful to the current efforts within the context of the Syrian conflict's settlement, including the need to convene the ‘Geneva-2’ as soon as possible, and create prerequisites for the long-awaited launch of a Conference on the Middle East WMD Free Zone.
Though there is a long and difficult path ahead in search for a mutually acceptable comprehensive agreement on the INP, the Geneva Accord is an encouraging first step in settlement of this and other problems in this region.
