Russia may help in North Korean money matters

The Russian Foreign Ministry says it is ready to help North Korea to transfer almost $US 25 MLN of its funds held in a bank in Macao.

The North Korean accounts were frozen in September 2005 at the request of the United States, which accused the communist regime of money laundering.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, a transaction is being prepared, but a number of issues need to be resolved related to Russia's rights under international law.

The return of the money is to encourage the communist state to honour its nuclear commitments.
