Chechnya marks 100 days of Kadyrov’s presidency

It is 100 days since Ramzan Kadyrov was elected the President of Chechnya. Ramzan is the son of former Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov, who was assassinated in May 2004, and at 30-years old is the youngest regional leader in Russia.

Kadyrov's presidency is seen as a key part of Russia's plan to localize fighting against the militants which has dragged on in two wars since 1994.

Many millions of dollars have been spent to rebuild Chechnya's shattered capital Grozny. And Kadyrov's soaring popularity is often associating with the resurgence of the republic.

No wonder Mr Kadyrov is so popular in the republic, believes Kheba Saratova, the head of the Chechen Independent Press Centre.

“Although, I used to be in opposition to Ramzan Kadyrov, it’s worth saying that he has done a lot during this short period of time, more than some of his predecessors during their whole presidency,”Kheba Saratova noticed.
