Kazakhstan stops Proton rocket launches

This latest move by Astana was made in addition to an earlier suspension of Proton-M type boosters.

Earlier, the Kazakh Prime Minister said the Government should have the right to ban such launches if the security of its head of state was at risk.

A proton rocket carrying a satellite crashed three minutes after take-off on September 6. It was the latest in a series of rocket crashes in Kazakhstan over the last 10 years.

The Kazakh government has warned the National Space Agency that Russia needs to be ready for tough talks over any future launches.

Now the Russian Space Agency may have to review its launching plan.
