New regulations to reduce black caviar export

The amount of black caviar a person is allowed to take out of Russia has been reduced to 125 grammes – half the amount previously permitted.

The new regulations were agreed between the member states of CITES, an organisation formed to protect endangered flora and fauna.

Sea-food smuggling is estimated to cost Russia $US 40 million a year.
