YouTube goes Russian

YouTube goes Russian

Tuesday saw the launch of a Russia-based version of the video sharing website YouTube.

The new version differs from its English counterpart by the choice of clips on the front-page. Videos with the description written in Russian and those with the word 'Russian' in it are sorted out.

Google runs the site and says the novelty will make posting comments and searching for Russian terms easier.

The site is far from unique though. A host of local online video providers are there to compete with, including the similarly-named RuTube.
