UN peacekeepers to stay in Bosnia for another year

The United Nations Security Council in New York has voted to keep peacekeeping troops in Bosnia for another year.

The council voted unanimously to extend the mandate amid fears that internal conflicts could return to the Balkan country.

More than 2,000 UN troops are stationed in Bosnia and local commanders insist that the peace-keeping task is far from over.

The country was divided into two autonomous parts, the Serb Republic and the Muslim-Croat Federation when the Bosnian war ended in 1995.
