Talks on Kosovo hit brick wall

Hopes of reaching any sort of compromise about the future of Kosovo remain slim, on the second day of decisive talks. Kosovo Albanians have again rejected an offer of autonomy by Serbia.

Envoys from the EU and United States see no reason in extending negotiations.

The expectations prior to the two days of talks were low and they certainly have not improved. The same rhetoric was heard from both sides.  Serbia is insisting that it will not let go of an inch of Kosovo and Kosovo’s leader say that the only option is an independent Kosovo.

Veton Surroi, the member of Kosovo’s negotiating team and also the leader and founder of ORA political party in Kosovo, says that every option should be explored.

He says the Kosovo delegation is ready to proceed with the EU but negotiations with Serbia will not continue after December 10 in any case.

“I think that one important signal was given today by Serbian president Boris Tadich who repeated twice that Serbia is not willing to go through war over any issue. And this is important, because from Serbia we have had in the past several years signals of war, rather than peace. This is a significant change,” said Mr Surroi.
