Russkis to give Yankees democracy lessons

The Moscow-based Institute of Democracy and Cooperation is setting-up a branch in New York. The Russian foundation will be devoted to promoting democracy and human rights.

Its founder, Anatoly Kucherena, a lawyer and member of the Russian Public Chamber, says the U.S. branch will be engaged in organising expert discussions about elections as well as human rights issues. It will also help improve Western perceptions of Russia.

Another office will soon start work in Paris.

Kucherena says the Institute of Democracy and Cooperation is funded by private donations from Russian businessmen and receives no money from the government.
