RT NAMED BEST IN CLASS NEWS SITE BY INTERACTIVE MEDIA COUNCIL

MOSCOW, JUNE 5, 2014 – RT’s website, rt.com, has won the 2014 Interactive Media Award (IMA) in the “News” category, where the channel was up against 36 other entries.

Projects were judged on five criteria, with a score from 0-100 awarded for each. RT’s website received the perfect 100 for content and 99 for site functionality.

According to the IMC, “the Best in Class award is the highest honor bestowed by the Interactive Media Awards. It represents the very best in planning, execution and overall professionalism. In order to win this award level, your site had to successfully pass through our comprehensive judging process, achieving very high marks in each of our judging criteria - an achievement only a fraction of sites in the IMA competition earn each year.”

RT.com is RT’s multimedia online platform. From live updates on breaking news stories to in-depth analysis of current events to full episodes of RT’s most popular shows, RT.com delivers all of RT’s best content in a way that encourages audience engagement and dynamic conversation. Following the 2013 website redesign and streamlining of the editorial approach to further emphasize news content, RT.com has nearly doubled its audience to 50 million page views (and more than 130 million page views for English, Russian, Arabic, Spanish versions of the site combined) in March 2014.

Other winners for News have included entries from CBS, NBC, Examiner, The Atlantic, CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and RTVE (largest Spanish-language broadcaster in Spain).

The Interactive Media Awards(TM) recognize the highest standards of excellence in website design and development and honor individuals and organizations for their outstanding achievement. Created by the Interactive Media Council, Inc. (IMC), a nonprofit organization of leading web designers, developers, programmers, advertisers and other web-related professionals, the competition is designed to elevate the standards of excellence on the Internet and offer winners a boost in marketing and exposure. IMC serves as the primary sponsor and governing body of the Interactive Media Awards, establishes the judging system and provides the judges for the competition.

RT is a global international news network that broadcasts 24/7 in English, Arabic and Spanish from its studios in Moscow and Washington, DC, and is available to 644 million viewers worldwide. RT is the first TV news channel in history to cross the billion views mark on YouTube. RT is the winner of the Monte Carlo TV Festival Awards for best 24-hr broadcast, and the only Russian TV channel to garner two nominations for the prestigious International Emmy Award in the News category.
