Kayakers nearly crushed to death by huge humpback whale (VIDEO)

Kayakers nearly crushed to death by huge humpback whale (VIDEO)

Two kayakers miraculously escape death after a massive humpback whale launched itself out of the water and nearly crushed them outside Moss Landing harbor in California, a viral YouTube video shows.

“We stopped to see a large aggregation of humpbacks feeding and carrying on with random acts of hijinks. There were also a lot of kayakers right in the middle of it all,” wrote Sanctuary Cruises, a whale-watching group which shot the footage.

The video shows massive humpback whales surfacing near a bunch of kayakers.

“It's all fun and games until someone gets jumped on. The next thing we knew, this thing launched right on top of these two kayakers. That was heavy,” said Sanctuary Cruises.

The organization added that the kayakers “came very close to getting crushed to death” as a full-size humpback “can weigh in at 40-tons.”

“That’s a lot of heavy blubber that would surely flatten a kayaker if the whale had a direct hit.”

One of the kayakers, Tom, told Yahoo news that was “the most extraordinary thing to happen to me.”

"We were taken under the water by the whale, perhaps in the down-draft," he said. "I think it brushed against me while I was out of the kayak… Neither of us know how we weren't ended there and then.

“We definitely understood how lucky we were, and were pretty confused,” he added.

The video has gone viral on social media. It has been watched over 1.5 million times so far, with users saying they were awed and somewhat frightened by the footage.

“So scary...”, “Omg! They lived? Unbelievable!”, ”What a cool experience to be there,” ” Wow must of been scary but totally awesome to be so close,” - these are a few comments under the video posted by the group on Facebook.
