'It’s déjà vu all over again’: Robber returns during live TV report to rob bank again

'It’s déjà vu all over again’: Robber returns during live TV report to rob bank again

Reporter Adam Sallet had just begun a live report on a robbery at Sterling Bank in Minnesota when the suspect struck again – at the same bank.

Sallet began his report by explaining that the bank in Rochester had been robbed less than twenty four hours earlier, but was promptly cut off by a bank employee, who ran into the shot to say, “That’s the guy right there.”

“Oh, that’s the robber!” Sallet replied and proceeded to roll with the punches. “This is live TV, folks!” He then politely excused himself, saying “I gotta go here and call 911. I’ll talk to you later.”

After a moment of dead air, the feed cut back to KIMT-TV’s studio, where a baffled anchor assured the audience that the reporter’s comments hadn’t been a joke.

On December 16th, KIMT reported that police had identified the suspect as 36-year-old Ryan Liskow. According to The Post-Bulletin, Liskow was arrested less than 45 minutes after the television segment aired, as police had identified his vehicle. In both robberies, Liskow entered the bank when there were no customers inside, showed the teller a note demanding money, implied he was armed, and left with the money.

KIMT has now aired additional footage showing Liskow following Sallet into the bank, as well as running away from it. Sallet, who seems to be operating his own camera at the scene, appears to be preparing for his segment when Liskow walks past the camera.

Witnesses to the first robbery described Liskow as wearing a green sweatshirt with the words “Get Lucky” and a four-leaf clover on the front. Clearly, he should have been more concerned about getting smart than lucky.

Sallet followed up on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to say that the suspect was in custody and no one had been injured in the robbery.

The farcical crime comes on the heels of another Rochester bank robbery, when a different man attempted to rob a drive-through teller last Wednesday, according to WAOW. “We normally have two or three [bank robberies] a year,” said Police Capt. John Sherwin.

With three in just seven days, Rochester seems to have met its quota for 2015.
