Shoot! Messi, Mexes, Hulk… The best goals in world football from 2015

The contenders for the best goal in world football during 2015 are in, with the video below showing some exhilarating strikes from around the globe.

There were a host of team goals and feats of sublime individualism that sent crowds into rapture.

Some of the candidates for 2015’s best goal include efforts from Lionel Messi, AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes and Zenit St Petersburg forward Hulk.

Ballon d’Or frontrunner Messi netted an incredible effort against Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final in May.

The Barcelona forward beat four Basque defenders before slotting home at Camp Nou to give his side the lead and set up an eventual 3-1 victory.

Cross-city rivals AC and Inter Milan met in China in pre-season, with an acrobatic long-range volley from defender Mexes giving the Rossoneri a 1-0 victory in sensational fashion.

Hulk scored from the most acute angle for Zenit against Sevilla in the Europa League in April, but it was not enough for the Russian side to avoid quarter-final elimination at the hands of the eventual competition winners.
