Moscow food to ease Moldovan drought

Thirty tonnes of food aid are on their way to Moldova, as part of a Russian relief programme to support the drought-afflicted region of Gagauzia. The area is suffering from shortages after high temperatures and drought last summer led to crop failures.

A Russian emergencies ministry plane will transport the produce from Moscow to the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, and from there it will be taken to Gagauzia.

It is the second Emergencies Ministry aid flight to take aid to Moldova.

Another 65 tonnes of food will be taken by railway.
