Georgian hunger striker hospitalised

Eleven people from the Georgian cities of Batumi and Kootaisi have joined up to 40 opposition protesters, who have been on hunger strike for four days in the capital Tbilisi. On Wednesday one of the hunger strikers was hospitalized.

All hunger strikers are being observed by doctors who support the protest.

“The protesters have been on hunger strike for four days. The critical moment has come now. From now on every day will be harder and harder for them to go without food,” one doctor said.

Ten Georgian MPs are among the protesters. They are calling for a re-count of the January presidential election, as well as changes to the country's electoral code.

Thousands of opposition supporters have also been holding rallies for three days.

They are planning another mass rally of protest near the parliament building on Wednesday.

Activists are now driving across the city and calling citizens to join the protest.
