New York values: Ted Cruz even lost to Ben Carson in one NY district

As if the New York primary wasn’t disappointing enough for Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz, it turns out one district disliked the Texas senator so much they cast more votes for Ben Carson - who is no longer running.

Carson, who bowed out of the GOP race in March, was still featured on Tuesday’s ballot as his request to be removed was made after the deadline had passed. The voters of Westchester County’s 16th congressional district placed the neurosurgeon third.

While Donald Trump secured 50 percent of the district’s vote and John Kasich 28 percent, Carson received 12 percent, two more percentage points than Cruz.

According to an unofficial tally of election results from the county, this equated to Carson receiving 296 more votes than the Texan.

Ahead of the primary, polling suggested that Cruz wouldn’t fare well in New York, particularly after he criticized rival Trump for having “New York values,” which did not sit well with New Yorkers.

A similar fate befell Trump himself in Tuesday’s vote on his home turf of Manhattan.

While the billionaire swept the boards in all other precincts, Manhattan voters gave him the snub, instead backing Kasich.

The Ohio governor received 45.2 percent of the vote while Trump won only 41.8 percent.
