On the verge of history: Leicester head into Man Utd game 1 win away from Premier League glory

Leicester City head to Old Trafford in search of the win that would seal one of the most unlikely title victories in sporting history.

With three games to go, the Foxes lead Tottenham Hotspur by seven points, but today's opponents Manchester United will be keen to throw a spanner in the works.

The challenge facing Leicester is a big one. United remain in the hunt for a Champions League place, and currently lie five points behind Manchester City, but with a game in hand.

With their two rivals still to play each other, Louis Van Gaal's team believe they can force their way into the top four.

While Leicester are bidding for their first-ever domestic top tier title, United can point to 20 league titles as a measure of their stature as a club.

The Foxes' three League Cup successes are the peak of their 132-year history, with United's 11 FA Cup Cups, four League Cups, three European Cup/Champions League titles, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one Intercontinental Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup dwarfing their achievements.

Despite the weight of history being against them, City head into the game full of confidence. They are unbeaten in their last nine games and have lost just twice away from home all season.

United have struggled for consistency throughout the campaign, but four successive wins and a place in the FA Cup Final have boosted the mood around the club.

Unbeaten in their last nine home games, United have conceded just seven goals at Old Trafford this season and have lost just one of their previous seven meetings with the Foxes, further highlighting the size of the task facing Leicester.

Tottenham's 1-1 draw at home to West Bromwich Albion on Monday put a big dent in their title hopes and they will hope United can do them a favor.

They face a stiff test next Monday as they travel to face a Chelsea team who have won their three previous meetings at Stamford Bridge without conceding a goal.

With a home game against Everton and a trip to Chelsea still to come, Claudio Ranieri's team will have further chances to win the league, but after a season in which they have continually defied expectations it would be no surprise to see them get the job done against United on Sunday.

Even defeat at the hands of England's most successful club may not stop the league leaders from being crowned champions if Chelsea defeat Tottenham on Monday night – and all signs point to a title parade at home next weekend, which would be a fitting tribute to an extraordinary season.
