Russia hits 10 against Denmark on Hockey World Championships Day 7

Hockey World Championships hosts Russia made a statement of intent on Day 7 of the competition, annihilating Denmark 10-1, much to the delight of the Moscow crowd.

Goals came thick and fast in the other three games on Thursday as well, as the Czech Republic, the United States and Canada all recorded wins – with a total of 29 goals over the four games.

After losing its opening game disappointingly, Russia won in next two clashes and entered the game with Denmark full of confidence.

Oleg Znarok’s men were simply too good for their Scandinavian opponents and recorded the biggest win of the competition to date, with goals spread over the three periods.

The Russian side shared the goals among eight different players, with Sergey Mozyakin and Vadim Shipachyov both netting twice.

The victory lifts the home side to second in Group A and raises hopes that the team can excel come the knockout stages.

Elsewhere in Group A, the Czech Republic stayed on top of the pool with a commanding 7-0 win over Norway.

Vladimir Vujyek’s team remains unbeaten in the competition, with Lukas Kaspar striking twice for the victorious side on this occasion.

Group B’s action was dominated by the North American sides, with both Canada and the United States recording victories.

The United States team was in real need of a win having lost two of its first three match-ups, but made no mistake against France, prevailing 4-0.

After a goalless first period, John Hynes’ men scored three times in the second period to put the result out of doubt.

"Our special teams were a factor tonight, and it's important that we continue to have good habits in our game," Hynes said.

The win moves the US to third, behind group frontrunners Canada and Finland.

Canada was expected to make light work of Germany and duly did, winning 5-2 to make it four consecutive victories in Russia.

The game was locked at 2-2 after the second period, but the North Americans showed their class in the final stint to score three unanswered goals and ensure victory.

Taylor Hall netted twice for Bill Peters’ men, who look like they will take some stopping in the tournament.

Friday’s action sees four clashes in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The Czech Republic will be able to extend its lead at the top of Group A by beating Kazakhstan, while Denmark and Latvia will meet.

In Group B, the United States will hope to build on its latest victory against bottom side Hungary, while Germany and Belarus finish off the action.
