Jo Cox murder: Thomas Mair to stand trial in November

Authorities have set November 14 as the provisional trial date for Thomas Mair, currently held in HMP Belmarsh charged with the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox.

Mair appeared at the Old Bailey by video link from jail on Thursday. The 52-year-old only spoke to confirm his name.

He is also charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH), possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Mair, who is alleged to have links to neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups, reportedly shouted “Britain first” while he stabbed, shot and dragged Cox down the street by her hair.

It is not yet known whether he was referring to the far-right group of the same name.

A plea and case management session has been booked for October.

Jo Cox, a 41-year-old mother of two elected to Parliament in May 2015, was killed outside her constituency office in Leeds on June 16.
