Farage turns down £250k reality TV offer
Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage says there is “no way” he would be taking up an offer to feature on this year’s ‘I’m A Celebrity... get me out of here!’, despite reportedly being offered £250,000.
The reality TV show would see Farage face a series of challenges in the Australian jungle, such as eating kangaroo testicles or being covered in cockroaches or fish guts.
Farage told Sky News there was “no way” he would be taking part.
ITV is reportedly “desperate” to sign him up, as it likes to include a politician in each series of the show.
A source told the Daily Mirror: “It would be TV gold to see Farage chomping on kangaroo anus or a turkey testicle in a Bushtucker trial.
“This year, everyone is talking about Brexit, so producers are desperate to snare one of the biggest names from the Leave campaign for the jungle to make it the most talked about series yet.
“Farage is a win with British voters - so producers think viewers would be keen to pick up the phone and nominate him to be covered in cockroaches or fish guts.”
Former MPs Lembit Öpik, who voiced his belief that an asteroid will wipe out life on Earth in the next decade, and Edwina Currie, who had a four-year affair with former PM John Major, have been contestants in the past.
Tory MP Nadine Dorries also entered the jungle in 2012 but was suspended by the party after signing up to the show took her away from her duties as an MP.
Farage’s comments come weeks after he joked about starring on a Brexit Celebrity Big Brother special, saying he would be tempted to enter the house if he could torture EU bosses.
“Oh, now that would be very tempting,” Farage told the Daily Star.
“I would like to torture them, mentally, slowly, for all the bad things they’ve done.”
