Tyson Fury to sue UK anti-doping agency over drugs claim

Controversial British boxer Tyson Fury is suing UK Anti-Doping after allegations emerged in the press that he had returned a positive drugs test.

Reports in the UK media claimed that the 27-year-old heavyweight had tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, believed to be the banned substance nandrolone.

Nandrolone is produced naturally in the body and helps muscle repair.

Along with cousin and fellow boxer Hughie, Fury is said to have returned positive tests back in February 2015, but the pair have vehemently denied the accusations.

Legal proceedings are said to have already began, with the pair’s lawyer Lewis Power releasing a statement of clarification.

"The two boxers strenuously deny taking any performance-enhancing drugs,” he said.

"However, during the last five weeks, leaks about these charges have appeared in the press and both boxers have been the targets of continual abusive language on Twitter.”

Fury is never far from the headlines, and has faced intense criticism in the past over his questionable views on women, race and homosexuals.

The English fighter is the current WBA and WBO heavyweight champion after recording a shock win over Wladimir Klitschko back in November.

A rematch between the pair was set to take place on July 9 in Manchester, but Fury was unable to contest the bout after picking up an ankle injury.

The highly-anticipated fight has been rescheduled for October, with more light to be shone on the doping claims in the build-up to the bout.

If found guilty, Fury would be expected to be stripped of his belts and handed a lengthy ban from the sport.
