RT RECEIVES FOUR NOMINATIONS FOR EUROPE’S LOVIE AWARDS

MOSCOW, SEPTEMBER 15, 2016 — RT is in the finals of the prestigious Lovie Awards – the European counterpart of the Webbys, which honors outstanding achievement in digital media – with nominations in four categories and four more shortlisted projects.

RT.com is a finalist in the “Web: News” category, alongside the websites of RFE/RL, VICE News, and The Guardian, while RT’s social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Soundcloud, Coub and Instagram, are up for the “Social: Best Overall Social Presence” prize.

Chernobyl: Fallout 30, RT’s special interactive multimedia project marking the 30th anniversary of the nuclear disaster, is nominated in two categories: “Web: Best Practices” and “Web: Best Use of Animation/Motion Graphics.” The project, available in Russian, English and French, not only covers key facts and dates about the accident as it unfolded, but also provides exclusive images and video footage of the events.

All internet users can vote for RT to receive the ‘People's Voice Award’ in the categories where the channel is nominated, on the Lovie website at https://www.peopleslovie.eu/.

“The Lovies celebrates the most creative cases and projects in the digital area. To grab four nominations, including in such prestigious categories as the best news website and overall social media presence, once again proves that RT's web team is among the main trendsetters in the global digital media market,” said Kirill Karnovich-Valua, RT’s Head of Online Projects.

Among RT’s shortlisted works is #DigitalVDay (in “Internet Video: Events & Live Broadcasts” category) – a special project that covered the 71st Victory Day celebrations in Moscow with revolutionary panoramic broadcasts of the Victory Day parade and fighter jet fly-over. RT’s overall 360-degree video strategy was recognized for “Social: Experimental & Innovation.” Since late 2015, RT has been among the pioneers of the panoramic video and VR formats in news media. RT’s two final shortlisted entries are the RT News App (in the “Mobile: News& Entertainment” category) and the website of RT’s documentary channel RTDoc (in the “Web: Television category”).

In April 2016, RT won the People’s Voice Award Webby – the leading international award honoring excellence on the internet – in an open online vote. Webby Awards online voters chose RT social media platforms over those of the BBC News, ABC News, NBC Nightly News and the New York Times.

RT is a global TV news network that broadcasts 24/7 in English, Arabic and Spanish from its studios in Moscow, Washington, DC, and London. RT has a weekly TV audience of 70 million people in 38 countries, and is the most watched TV news network on YouTube with nearly 4 billion views. RT is the winner of the Monte Carlo TV Festival Awards for best 24-hr newscast, and the only Russian TV channel to become a four-time finalist of the International Emmy Award for News. The Lovie Awards is the most prestigious, and the only truly pan-European awards honoring online excellence.
