Crawford team expresses interest in Troyanovsky unification bout

Crawford team expresses interest in Troyanovsky unification bout

Members of boxing champion Terence Crawford’s promotional team have revealed that they are keen to arrange a fight with fellow undefeated light-welterweight champion Eduard Troyanovsky.

“Crawford’s team are interested in the fight,” said Lee Chambers, who is part of Top Rank, who represent Crawford, without specifying when a potential bout may take place.

Crawford is a pound-for-pound high-flyer and looks to be on the brink of superstardom. He unified the WBO, WBC and The Ring magazine championship belts with a win over Ukrainian Viktor Postol to improve his record to 29 wins and no losses, and a bout with Russia’s Troyanovsky would be a logical step if he wants to achieve undisputed superiority in the 140lbs weight class.

Troyanovsky is the IBF and IBO champion, and has emerged as a dangerous force in the division following a chilling defense of his titles against Japan’s Keita Obara inside of 2 rounds in Moscow. The 36-year-old knocked his opponent clean out of the ring in that fight and now boasts a professional slate of 25 victories with 22 big wins coming by way of knockout.

The fighter they call “Troya” previously stated that his goal is to unify the championships by facing other world champions in the division, including Crawford and British three-weight world champion and current WBA world champion Ricky Burns in future fights.

“Potential opponents for the future are those who are world champions, such as Terence Crawford and Ricky Burns. There can be a lot of potential opponents, because there may be mandatory challengers, mandatory defenses, voluntary defenses,” Troyanovsky told RT Sport before his win over Obara at Krylia Sovetov.

Since that win, Troyanovsky has expressed his wish to fight at bigger venues in front of larger crowds. A fight with Crawford in the US would grant that wish and provide the perfect opportunity for Troya to announce himself to a wider boxing audience.

Crawford has also been linked with legendary fighter Manny Pacquiao since the Filipino’s return to boxing following a short retirement. Recently Dominican Felix Diaz hinted that he would like to gain a shot at the Nebraska native.

Troyanovsky’s promoter Andrei Ryabinsky confirmed that his charge could meet Crawford or Burns in the near future

“Of course it’s logical that at some point it will be Crawford, because it would be a fantastic idea – a fight to unify the titles,” Ryabinsky told RT following Troya’s win against Obara.
