U.S. Iraq Commander gets promotion

The man who America credits with reducing violence in Iraq has gained a promotion. General David Petraeus has been nominated to be the next chief of U.S. Central Command, which covers the entire Middle East region.

General Petraeus is currently America’s top military commander in Iraq.

His promotion must now be approved by the U.S. Senate.

RT’s military analyst Evgeny Khruschev says General Petraeus is uniquely qualified for the position.

“His new appointment as the Chief of the CenCom will be a 50/50 between diplomatic activity from the North horn of Africa to Iraq, Iran Afghanistan and Pakistan. This position is uniquely qualified for General Petraeus to expand his strategic horizons to understand that the challenges for the US and for international community fighting the war on terror are much broader thyan the war of choice in Iraq.”
