Russian Teens conquer North Pole on skies

Seven young Russians, aged between 8 and 15, took part in a youth ski expedition to the Top of the Planet. The whole journey that started on April 14 took them ten days.

The five boys and two girls were guided by two experienced Russian travelers, Matvey Shparo and Boris Smolin, who recently entered the record books after spending 84 days skiing to the North Pole, all during polar nights.

The expedition was devoted to Frederick Albert Cook, the first man two reach North Pole 100 years ago, and other great explorers of the past.

The teenagers got the chance to take part after winning a competition.

All seven were chosen from different regions across Russia. And, when they reached their final destination, each of them erected the flag of their native area.
