The Arkansas bridge that refused to be demolished (VIDEOS)

A bridge in Little Rock, Arkansas refused to surrender, with attempts to demolish it falling short - for five hours, at least. The Broadway Bridge garnered support on social media from those admiring its stubbornness.

The bridge over the Arkansas River was scheduled for implosion at 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday, but detonations failed to collapse the structure as planned. The 93-year-old bridge was underestimated by engineers, with witnesses telling KATV: “They didn’t use enough dynamite. It could last another 100 years.”

Authorities had until 10 a.m. on Wednesday to finish the job and remove the rubble and after nearly five hours and 8 eight attempts to pull the bridge down with cables, it finally collapsed into the river below, according to KATV.

A Twitter account has also appeared for the bridge with the bio “Just a Bridge that refuses to succumb to dynamite.”

The bridge has become an online hit, with 11,000 people watching the live feed of the ongoing demolition attempt, while almost 2,500 people have shared the post.
